Objectives of the p-XRF Network:
  • Support and Resources: Provide and promote resources and guidance to support a growing community of users and foster best practices across a range of pXRF applications in archaeology and heritage.
  • Exchange of Knowledge: Facilitate focused opportunities for exchanging ideas and knowledge about current and emerging practices through conference sessions, workshops, training, and more.
  • Sustaining the Community: Establish a self-sustaining network where standards and reference materials (certified and in-house) can be acquired, shared, and accessed by all members.
Guidance and Innovation: Author, approve, and disseminate agreed-upon guidance on a variety of applications (e.g., soils, metals, glass, obsidian, pigments) to stimulate best practices and drive further innovation.
Long-Term Vision:
  • We envision focused discussions led by network members on topics of interest, as well as task forces dedicated to developing standards and guidelines for various issues and materials.
  • We aim to organize colloquia, summer schools, and training sessions collaboratively developed by the network.
  • While funding would be beneficial, our goal is to maintain the network on a volunteer basis. Thus, tasks should be feasible for those proposing and undertaking them—we cannot manage all responsibilities ourselves, though we (particularly Michaela) will coordinate efforts.
  • Coordinate with instrument manufacturers to provide standard operating procedures (SOP) for scientific applications.
